Jonathan Butler, John Dotterrer and Kathy Klock Join Akerman Senterfitt
Trio Marks a Significant Akerman Expansion in Palm Beach County
July 11, 2011
Akerman Senterfitt today announced the firm’s ongoing expansion in Palm Beach County, Fla. with the addition of Jonathan B. Butler, John C. Dotterrer and Kathy M. Klock. All three enter the firm’s Litigation Practice Group as shareholders, with Butler and Klock joining in the firm’s West Palm Beach office and Dotterrer in the Palm Beach office.
Akerman's presence grew significantly in Palm Beach County last year with the addition of eight attorneys of Butzel Long’s Florida offices in Palm Beach and Boca Raton. The firm has expanded the total number of attorneys in its three offices in the market by 58 percent in little more than a year, solidifying its leading presence in the county. The firm also is expanding in other parts of the country with significant additions in recent months in New York, Miami, Denver and Washington, D.C.
"The addition of these talented attorneys highlights Akerman’s strategic growth in key markets nationwide, and especially in Palm Beach County, where we have become one of the largest firms in the market," said Andrew Smulian, chairman and CEO of Akerman Senterfitt. "As a shifting economy creates new challenges, our clients are demanding a greater depth and breadth of experience. We look forward to the contribution Jonathan, John and Kathy will make, and we welcome them to the team."
Butler has more than 16 years of experience working with clients on securities litigation and arbitration representing broker-dealers, investment advisors, and individuals in a wide range of securities-related matters. He has expertise handling arbitration and mediation of customer and industry disputes. He is admitted to the Florida and Georgia bars and is a member of Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), Legal & Compliance Division. He joins Akerman from the West Palm Beach office of Fowler White Burnett.
Klock brings more than 28 years of experience focusing on the representation of broker-dealers in arbitration, state and federal court litigation and in regulatory and self-regulatory organization investigations and enforcement actions. She represents national and regional securities brokerage firms, clearing firms, and officers, employees, and independent contractors in customer disputes, regulatory inquiries and investigations, internal investigations, employment disputes, recruiting litigation and other disputes between industry members. She is admitted to the Florida bar and joins Akerman from the West Palm Beach office of Fowler White Burnett.
Butler and Klock further fortify the abilities of Akerman's securities litigation practice -- a team of lawyers known for representing individual and corporate clients facing SEC and other regulatory investigations.
Dotterrer merges his well-established Town of Palm Beach firm with Akerman bringing two other attorneys with him. Jenny Torres joins as of counsel in the Miami office and Stephen Giovinco joins as an associate in the West Palm Beach office. Dotterrer's strengths lie in the areas of commercial and construction litigation. He has more than 36 years of experience and is admitted to the Florida and Michigan bars.
Akerman's litigation team has vast experience in a broad range of civil and criminal litigation, including actions involving banking, securities, healthcare policy, insurance, real estate and construction. Akerman was recognized nationally by U.S. News - Best Lawyers (2010) in the General Commercial Litigation category and as a national tier one law firm for International Arbitration. Akerman is also top-ranked in Florida by Benchmark Litigation (2011).
