Akerman Senterfitt's Karen Buesing Recognized as "Leader in the Law" by Florida Association for Women Lawyers
July 16, 2012
Akerman Senterfitt today announced that Karen Buesing, a shareholder in the firm's Tampa office, has been named to the Florida Association of Women Lawyers' (FAWL) 2012 class of "Leaders in the Law" recognizing outstanding women lawyers across the state that have made a significant impact in their communities through legal service and community activities. Buesing was one of 26 women in Florida honored at The Florida Bar's annual meeting June 22.
FAWL strives to propel women lawyers into economic, social, and leadership spheres of power, and its mission is to actively promote gender equality and the leadership roles of FAWL's members in the legal profession, judiciary, and community at large. The 2012 Leaders in the Law honorees were selected via a nomination process from FAWL chapters statewide for earning the respect of others professionally, being involved in activities for the betterment of their local community, exemplifying qualities of a positive role model, and advancing the cause of women in the community.
Earlier this year, Buesing was one of five Akerman attorneys named among the Top 50 Women Florida Super Lawyers; no other law firm in the state had more. Akerman shareholders Kimberly Ashby, Susan Eisenberg, Katherine "Kathi" Giddings, and Margaret Mathews also were recognized.
Buesing is a member of Akerman's Labor & Employment Practice Group. She is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, is Board Certified by The Florida Bar as a specialist in Labor & Employment Law, and has been recognized by Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America as a leading practitioner in her field. Buesing has counseled and represented management in employment law matters for nearly 30 years.
The Akerman Labor & Employment Practice Group includes lawyers who are board certified in labor and employment law as specialists in the field. The team represents employers throughout the United States, in virtually every major industry and in connection with all aspects of labor relations and employment-related issues in the workplace including labor and employment law compliance and litigation, workplace safety, immigration, and non-compete or trade secret issues.
