Michael Goldberg Comments on Ponzi Schemes in CNBC Article
August 8, 2012
Michael Goldberg was featured in a CNBC news article titled, "How to Get Your Money Back from a Con Man." The article reported on Ponzi schemer and businessman-turned-fugitive Eric Bartoli. Bartoli bilked more than 1,000 investors out of $65 million and then fled the country. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) now believes he is living in Peru. He remains wanted on a federal arrest warrant for allegedly masterminding a Ponzi scheme.

Goldberg, who has fought to return money to victims of Ponzi schemes, was named receiver on the Bartoli case. He works with forensic accountants to locate any potential assets and stashed money. According to Goldberg, when the principal runs, you lose the person who knows most about the crime, making the process tedious, slow, and costly.

Goldberg stated, "As a receiver you love when somebody’s arrested and facing the hammer of the criminal authorities and the weight of the court system, then they get very cooperative, and you learn a lot. To this day we have not had the benefit of Mr. Bartoli’s cooperation."
