American Lawyer Highlights Akerman's Collaborative Effort to Preserve US Legal Services Corp. Funding
March 9, 2017
Akerman Chairman & CEO Andrew Smulian joined more than 150 U.S. law firm leaders in voicing his steadfast support of community-based legal services programs. In response to potential spending cuts, the executives wrote to the U.S. Office of Management & Budget, advocating for the preservation of funding for the Legal Services Corporation (LCS), the nation’s single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. The news was reported by The Wall Street Journal, ABA Journal and American Lawyer, where Whitney Untiedt, director of Akerman's Pro Bono Initiatives, underscored the critical role legal aid organizations play in the community and the justice system.
