Akerman Senterfitt is pleased to announce that Allan Katz, head of the firm’s Government Affairs and Public Policy practice, has been confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as Ambassador to Portugal. Mr. Katz was nominated by President Barack Obama on November 30, 2009.
“Allan’s leadership capabilities in addition to his long-standing interest in overseas affairs and international business, make him a perfect choice to serve in the post of a key ally such as Portugal. I trust that Allan will serve as a bridge in the interests of our two countries,” said Andrew Smulian, Chairman and CEO of Akerman Senterfitt. “Allan has had great success in both the public and private sectors, working on the Democratic National Committee, serving Tallahassee as City Commissioner and chairing a key practice of our firm. I am confident he will bring the same dedication that has led to this success to his role as ambassador to Portugal. We are particularly proud that Allan continues the tradition of Akerman leadership who have made a special commitment in public service to our nation.”
Under Mr. Katz’s leadership, Akerman’s Government Affairs and Public Policy practice group grew significantly in Washington, D.C., Florida, Las Vegas, New York and California.
