Akerman Remembers Our Friend and Colleague, Hank Raattama

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Hank Raattama, a longtime partner in our Miami office, on April 13, 2023. Hank has been an integral part of the Akerman family for almost 30 years. He was a renowned tax lawyer who devoted his career to advising nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, individuals, and families in complex tax, estate, and business planning matters. With a passion for the nonprofit community, Hank counseled many organizations over the years and was involved with various charitable programs, including founding and co-chairing PhilanthropyMiami, whose participants include most of the nonprofit community in Miami-Dade County.

Lauded for his service to the profession and the community, he was the recipient of the Gerald T. Hart Outstanding Florida Tax Attorney Award, the James W. McLamore Miami-Dade County Volunteer of the Year Award, and was named Outstanding Professional Advisor, Miami-Dade County, Florida. His expertise and commitment to his clients earned him the title of "the dean of the nonprofit area" in Chambers USA.

The countless organizations that Hank helped establish and manage will carry on his legacy of compassion, humanity, and dignity, positively impacting the lives of many individuals for years to come. His life and work are a true inspiration for those seeking to make a difference in the world.
